City brings Housing City tour to Tafelsig

08 May 2026

The City’s Human Settlements Directorate continues to work hard to bring services closer to communities and recently took its Housing City Tour: Bringing You Home initiative directly to the doorsteps of Tafelsig residents. The initiative is aimed at improving accessibility by taking Human Settlements services directly to communities across the metro.

Through this initiative, residents can access a ‘one-stop-shop’ of Human Settlements services directly in their communities. In Tafelsig this week, residents received assistance with housing needs  applications, homeownership, rental housing and related services, without the need to travel long distances, make numerous calls or send emails for support. 73 title deeds were also issued to homeowners.

‘The initiative is further strengthened through support from the City’s sister departments, making it a collaborative effort to bring services directly to residents’ doorsteps

‘Our teams also carried out repairs and upgrades to several public housing units in Tafelsig. The work included replacing external doors, plumbing and carpentry repairs, roof and ceiling maintenance, as well as plastering and wall repairs.

‘We will continue visiting communities as service delivery efforts progress and we encourage residents to visit and engage with our teams when we are in their neighbourhoods,’ said the Mayoral Committee Member for Human Settlements, Councillor Carl Pophaim.

Beneficiaries of City housing projects are selected in accordance with the City's Housing Allocation Policy and Housing Needs Register to ensure housing opportunities are made available in a fair and transparent manner that prevents queue jumping and to those who qualify for housing as per the South African legislation.
